AUTOBIOGRAPHY & TIMELINE

Hi! I'm Claire, I'm a seventeen-year-old senior at Emma Willard, I use she/her pronouns, and I'm from Hong Kong but I currently live in Maryland. I started this signature project this year after spending a month in the Rocky Mountains this summer, near Wyoming's Wind River Reservation. Over the course of the month we spent backpacking in the mountains, we dedicated a lot of our free time and energy to learning about the land that we were inhabiting, and the historical and current stewards of that land. I think that this work, acknowledging and really appreciating and giving back, to the indigenous peoples of this country is really important, valuable, and crucial work. I wanted to bring what I learned to Emma and hopefully make an impact on the way our community thinks and engages with local indigenous peoples and the land back movement before I leave next year.
October: Researching local history & current issues, finding focus points
November: Gathering and creating resources for the Emma community, brainstorming distribution methods
December: Create a tangible plan for community outreach events/announcements in the spring, prepare any materials, and create action items
January: Giving myself a month of wiggle room to submit college applications
February: Possible signature spotlight, making my project visible on campus
